Our story

Openmart began with a simple problem: finding the right local retailers.

In 2020, while still a product engineer at Pinterest, our co-founder Kathryn Wu launched a milk-tea side hustle called OhTea. She quickly discovered that locating every potential stockist—and, more importantly, the right point of contact—was far harder than brewing great tea. The search meant stitching together data from maps, review sites, business filings and a half-dozen SaaS tools. The market was so fragmented that OhTea never reached product-market fit, but the pain point was clear.


Kathryn decided to solve it once and for all. She teamed up with Richard He, a fellow ex-Pinterest engineer and long-time friend (we first bonded over our dogs—a golden retriever and a lab). Together we founded Openmart at the end of 2023.
